Hang in there!. We’re working on it!
Wanna give a BIG shout out to all who pitched up again for the show. What an *AMAZING* night you guys gave me at The Cutting Room on Tuesday. Even after having to wait out in the cold for an extra half hour, you all came in, sang along, chanted along, shook the shakers, shook your asses and continued encouraging my behavior! Thank you all so much and a special thanks to The Cutting Room staff. Ngiyabonga kakhulu and #amillionyearsofpeacetime
It was an unbelievable evening at The Cutting Room NYC last night. I can’t thank everyone enough for coming out with your friends and clapping and singing and cheering and clapping and singing some more! You my friends, fans and fam, made it MAGICAL! And a special shout out to INCENDIO for inviting me to open for you and also, to Gerard Hoffman - one of the most skilled FOH Techs in one of the greatest sounding rooms in NYC! BIG LOVE TO ALL! SHARP SHARP!!!
Some of you may know, back in 2020 I removed my album “Ownership,” which was released under my other name “Ema” from all of the streaming platforms. It was a calculated “in times of COVID” decision to try and use all the down time to try and straighten out the digital rights/royalties cluster-fuck that resulted from years of same name confusion from multiple artists and a blunt digital rights tracking system that was (and really still is) ill-equipped to handle redundancies and nuanced information. But that’s a longer discussion for later…
The point is I will be re-releasing “Ownership” in its entirety a little later this summer. But as I’m preparing for that, I thought I’d go ahead and offer up a couple of tracks to sort of “prime the pump".
Given the frightening climate of militarism, re-emerging fascism and well, just plane old unbridled hatred of “others” that seems to be expanding at an alarming rate, I thought maybe a call for peace would be appropriate for the first release, and maybe a good tonic as well.
My anthemic call for peace “A Million Years” will be hitting all of the streaming platforms in about another week. Click on the pic below to add it to your “Peace” playlist and share it with your friends.
Sibiz’uxolo sonke thina…we call for peace, for all of us.
Thank you as always for supporting artist owned music and I wish us all a million years of peacetime.
Greetings all. I’m sure many of you are looking at the date gaps between this and the last post and thinking “WTFHYB?”. But a series of less than ideal circumstances - the pandemic not being the least of which - forced me to shut down my magical and wondrous Ikhaya Studios and go “off the radar” as it were for a lengthy period of time. I’m not going to go into details at this time because over the past couple of years, virtually everybody regardless of severity, has a struggle story to tell. Suffice it to say, mine put me out of business for a couple of years.
I may elaborate at another time, but this is just to tell all of my fans, friends, family and fellow musos alike, that the pilot light was never fully extinguished and I have begun the process of calibrating and unsticking ALL of the valves that will once again allow me to fire up all the burners and unleash a whole new era of World Music On Jet Fuel.
So please stay tuned, come visit me on FB and Instagram, and for now I’ll leave y’all with one more line from my obstacle defying song Raising The Dead :
“Prime the pump to a zillion volts, it’s going to be one, HELLUVA JOLT!!! I’m raising the dead…”
A Million Years of Peacetime,
M

Hey World Rockers! Did my last solo show of the year last Friday at Silvana in Harlem. It was a total Safro-Rockin' blow out so thanks to all who pitched up and a special shout out to all the beautiful staff at Silvana.
My good friend and trusted confidant Steven Walsh of Baltophoto (who is also a fine singer/songwriter) captured the show in a simply stunning photo shoot. Check it out below and then check back here soon. The year is ending and coming with it (as I've been saying), will be the new band and the new album. And don't miss out on the latest; sign up to get updates if you haven't yet.
